A Borromean Ring of Mobius Strips

Materials and Methods: Knitted from Takhi Jackson
Artist & Designer: Johanna Franklin

A Borromean ring is composed of three loops that are linked together as a triple but not pairwise, so if any loop is removed, the other two will not be linked anymore. Borromean rings are closely connected to braids: you can make a Borromean ring by taking three strands, braiding them, and tying the ends of each of the strings together.
Rigid Borromean rings cannot be made from perfect circles, but they can be made from ellipses that have arbitrarily small eccentricity. This set is made from three Mobius strips.
