Title: Phyllotactic blanket
Artist and Designer: Daniel Yuhas
Materials: Yarn
Technique: Knitting
Artist’s Statement: Two sets of spirals curve in opposite
directions to form the pattern of a phyllotactic spiral. These spirals occur
frequently in nature, most famously as the pattern of the segments of a pine
cone or the seeds on a sunflower head. The number of spirals traveling in each
direction are always members of the Fibonacci series. In this case, three clockwise
and five counterclockwise spirals intersect to form the blanket’s spiral pattern.
