Gwen Fisher's Curvy Three
Title: Curvy Three
Artist and Designer: Gwen Fisher
Materials: Glass seed beads, Nymo nylon thread
Technique: Bead weaving, herringbone stitch
Artist’s Statement: This beaded object uses a curved version of a herringbone tube in which the beads on one side of the tube are larger than on the other side. The difference in sizes makes the tube of beads flatten and curve towards the smaller beads to make a fan shape. By weaving the tube to have more than a 360◦ turn, and joining the ends, I created an ob ject that exhibits negative curvature. In Curvy Three, I continued the weave to make three full revolutions before I joined the ends, thereby creating the same number of lobes in the surface, but any other whole number would work just as well.
